Obituary for Ellis “Al” Ostrom
Ellis “Al” Ostrom, of Portland, passed away on July 19, 2018 at the age of 78. He was born in Muskegon on October 18, 1939, the son of Ernest & Margaret (Hikade) Ostrom.
Al worked many years in construction as the owner of Al's Utility Contracting. He loved the outdoors, up north, hunting, and sitting around the campfire with friends and family. He served in the United States Army from October 1956 to September 1962 where he was a proud member of the 529th MP Company and the USAREUR Honor Gaurd, which allowed him the privilege to escort Queen Elizabeth in Europe. Preceding Al in death are his father, mother, sister, Kathryn Buck, and step-father, Harold Williams. Al is survived by his wife of 53 years, Gloria Jean (Wright) Ostrom; 3 children, Al Ostrom Jr., Jackie Ostrom, and Tina (Anthony) Smiley; 5 grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild; brother, Don (Lyn) Ostrom of Alaska; and his beloved dog, Lyndie.
A celebration of Al's life will be on Sunday, August 5, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at the VFW in Portland. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Al's name to the Alzheimer's Association. Arrangements are entrusted to Lehman Funeral Homes. Online condolences may be made at www.lehmanfuneralhomes.com
