Portland Football Dominates Charlotte
Friday’s varsity football game in Charlotte ended in a 27-0 forfeit after Charlotte’s Ryan Jester left the field with an injury with 5:53 left in the 2nd Quarter.
The game started with Portland’s defense forcing a three and out. Portland would start their drive from their own 37-yard line. The offense would gouge the Charlotte defense en route to a seven play 63-yard drive capped off by an 8 yard touchdown run by Sr. SB Jake Veale. Sr K Tate Dziewiatowski converted the extra point putting Portland up 7-0.
Portland’s defense would force another Charlotte punt. Portland scored their 2nd touchdown when Sr. SB Trevor Lattimer busted off a 32-yard run. The extra point from Dziewiatkowski was good. With 2:53 left in the 2nd Quarter the score would put Portland up 14-0 over Charlotte.
On 1st down Sr. CB Mitch Mallek picked off an errant Charlotte pass. Portland would march down with Jr. SB Gavin McGregor scoring from 10 yards out. Dziewiatkowski’s extra point was good. At the end of the 1st Quarter Portland 21 Charlotte 0.
Portland’s defense would force another three and out. Portland would move down the field and score again when Jr. FB Blake Meyers scored from 3-yards. The game however would take a sad turn when senior Charlotte player Ryan Jestor got hurt trying to stop Meyers from scoring. The game was suspended with 5:53 left in the 2nd Qtr. as Jester was attended to.
