Portland Boys Tennis Takes 2nd in Regionals

Portland Boys Varsity Tennis took 2nd place in Division 4 Regionals hosted by Portland on Thursday and they qualified for the State tournament! The boys had to play in cold temperatures and high winds but didn’t let that stop them. The Regional Champs for Portland were Jack Roe at 4 singles, Kurt Kraczon and Alex Russman at 3 doubles, and Ryan Leonard and Cade Vallier at 4 doubles.

According to coach Joel Cross, “Lansing Catholic High School ended up as regional champions by winning 17 points with 3 flight champions. The winning flights were at 3 singles, 1 doubles, and 2 doubles. Portland also had 3 flight champions but didn't send as many flights to the championship round. This earned them 14 points and second place. Their winning flights were at 4 singles, 3 doubles, and 4 doubles. Lansing Christian and Flint Powers rounded out the teams that qualified for the state tournament. Lansing Christian earned 12 points and had flight champions at 1 singles and 2 singles. Flint Powers didn't have any champions but they did win 10 matches which earned them enough points to qualify. The state tournament will be held next Friday at Kalamazoo College.”
