Obituary for Mary Collette (Monahan) Blaschka


Mary Collette (Monahan) Blaschka, age 91, of Portland, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and sister passed away Sunday, March 31, 2019. She was born on September 29, 1927 in Winona, Minnesota. Mary was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Westphalia. She was a woman of great faith and deep prayer with a special devotion to Our Blessed Mother. Her children and grandchildren were her life and she will be greatly missed.

Proceeding Mary in death are her husband of 46 years, Nyle Blaschka; daughter, Rose Painter; grandson, Dan Painter; son-in-law, Rick Painter; and daughter-in-law, Annette Blaschka; her parents; two brothers, Joe and Neil; and two sisters, Rose and Genny. Mary is survived by her sons: Bob, Mike (Vicky), Jim (Valerie), John (Cheryl); daughters: Mary (Allen) Nurenberg and Barb (Bruce) Spitzley; 25 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; and one brother, James (Joan) Monahan of Midland.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. Eric Weber on Wednesday, April 3, 2019 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Westphalia. Rite of Committal will follow at Portland Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 5-8 p.m. with the Rosary being prayed at 4:30 p.m. at St. Mary’s Funeral Chapel, 210 N, Westphalia Street, Westphalia.
