National Day of Prayer - May 2, 2019

7:00 p.m. Red Mill Pavilion

Praying for our Nation, our City, and our Community

Everyone is invited to join together and pray for our nation on this National Day of Prayer at the Red Mill Pavilion. The local pastors will unite to pray for our nation. This has been a longstanding event held typically during the day; but this year we hope to include many more by offering it in the evening. It only takes a few minutes but it's important and powerful to come together in this way. And we are very excited to work in coordination with the Portland Sesquicentennial Celebration! So, join us and be a part of history!

Portland, MI has remained a community known for its strong faith and religious values since the time that settlers began arriving to the area in the 1830's. People first met in homes, as churches began to be formally organized. The first churches were built in the 1850's. The Portland Area Ministerial Association (PAMA) was formed as an interfaith nonprofit organization and plays an important role in addressing community needs. The June 2015 tornado was a disaster that had significant impact on the people of Portland, as several homes, businesses, and churches were damaged. The interfaith organization of PAMA played a key role in helping to heal the community by holding special services immediately after the tornado.
