Annual Medication Disposal Event at the Capitol and Portland Rite Aid

Clean out your medicine cabinets and bring your unused, unwanted, or expired medications to the Michigan State Capitol in Lansing for safe disposal on Tuesday, September 17, 2019, from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
The Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE) and the Michigan Pharmacists Association (MPA) are once again partnering to increase public awareness about the importance of proper medication disposal. Pharmacists, student pharmacists, and police officers will be on the south Capitol lawn collecting unused, unwanted, or expired medications, including controlled substances, for incineration. Feel free to use the drop-off tent at the intersection of Capitol Avenue and Michigan Avenue for quick, easy, and handicap access. Please visit www.MichiganPharmacists.org/MedicationDisposal to learn more about what is and is not accepted. Michiganders who cannot attend are encouraged to use the EGLE Interactive Household Drug Take Back Map HERE to find other nearby medication collection options. Just enter your zip code, hit enter, and the map zooms to your location and shows you nearby medication collections. Don’t see any, just zoom out!
You can save a life today while preserving our environment for tomorrow by keeping your medications secure when in the home and regularly participating in drug take back programs where they are available.
The Rite Aid drug store in Portland located at 1339 E Grand River Ave is listed as a participating disposal location. The store’s phone number is 517-647-4704.
