Shamrock football wins a shootout over Bellaire
On Saturday October 19th, the Shamrocks travelled 3 hours north to visit the Bellaire Eagles for a showdown. Bellaire came to play, and put up 34 on the vaunted Shamrock defense, but the Shamrock offense was firing on all cylinders and outscored the Eagles 68-34. In the first quarter, the Shamrocks wasted no time, with John Schneider returning the opening kickoff 85 yards and making the score 7-0. Ned Smith followed up on the next possession, with a 44 yard touchdown run. The Eagles struck next on a 32 yard passing touchdown, making the score 14-6. Ned Smith struck again before the quarter was over, making the score 21-6 after one. In the second quarter, the Eagles came out firing, making the score 21-14. On the next series, the Shamrocks fumbled the ball away and the Eagles capitalized, making the score 21-20. That woke up St. Patrick's, and the defense locked down the Eagles- led by interceptions by Connor Cross and Shane Cook, the Shamrock offense and Quarterback Connor Cross put up 4 scores- a 38 yard pass to Derec Fedewa, a 53 yard pass to Zach Spitzley, an 11 yard pass to Tyler Coyne, and an 8 yard pass to Zach Spitzley. Which made the score 48-20 St. Patrick's going into halftime. In the third quarter, St. Patrick's and Bellaire traded scores, after a 53 yard rushing touchdown from Derece Fedewa, and a 31 yard pass from the Eagles, the score was 55-28 after three quarters. The fourth quarter saw another touchdown from Ned Smith, this time from 7 yards out, and the Shamrocks put one more on the board when Sophomore Shane Cook threw a perfect pass to Freshmen Seth Frawley for a 13 yard touchdown. The Eagles scored one more time to make the final score 68-34. Offensive leaders for St. Patrick's were Ned Smith who had 9 carries for 159 yard and 3 touchdowns, Derec Fedewa who had 68 yard on 4 carries and 1 touchdown and 1 reception for 38 yards and a touchdown, Zach Spitzley who caught 3 passes for 107 yards and 2 touchdowns, and Connor Cross who went 5 for 7 for 156 yard and 4 touchdowns. Defensively, Zach Spitzley had 10 tackles, 1 sack and 1 tackle for loss (TFL), Alex Kissane had 10 tackles, Derec Fedewa had 7 tackles 1 sack and 1 TFL, and Riley Kissane had 6 tackles 1 sack and 1 TFL. The Shamrocks host 5-3 Burr Oak next Friday, October 25th, at PHS at 7 pm.
