Raider Marching Band to Perform at 23rd Annual Electric Light Parade

The Portland Raider Marching Band will join ten other local high school bands at Lansing’s Annual Silver Bells in The City Parade on Friday Night, November 22nd in Downtown Lansing. The Parade will step off form the corner of Lenawee and South Washington Square at 6:00 PM. Sixty other parade units will participate in the parade. Following the parade, the Lighting of the Official State Christmas Tree is scheduled for 7:35 in front of the State Capital. The lighting of the State Christmas Tree will be followed by a community sing-along and fireworks. Over 60,000 people are expected to attend the parade.

The High School Marching bands will be competing for “Best Illuminated Band” Awards. The bands are expected to “sparkle with thousands of lights” as they march the parade route. More information about Silver Bells in the City Events and the Electric Light Parade can be found at www.silverbellsinthecity.org

Portland High School Band Director Mike Sulecki reports that this is the Raider Marching Band’s first ever appearance in the Annual Electric Light Parade and he encourages the Portland Community to show up and cheer the Band on. If any more motivation is needed, then we are happy to report that Santa himself has confirmed that he will once again attend the parade, as this is “one of my favorite Christmas Season events”.
