Raiders Drop Close Game at Lakewood Lake Odessa in Boys Basketball
Sophomore Trent Meyers makes a backhanded lay-up while helping the Raiders re-take the lead in the fourth quarter at Lakewood. It wasn’t enough though as the Vikings pulled out A 70-68 victory.
Portland built a 31-17 lead in the first half against Lakewood behind Owen Russell’s 17 points, including five three pointers, but Lakewood came roaring back by scoring 13 straight points to end the half 31-30. In the second half, the Vikings picked up where they left off by outscoring the Raiders 18-12 and led Portland 48-43 at the end of the third quarter. Portland re-captured the lead in the fourth quarter 54-52. But, they couldn’t catch a break on several close calls and the Vikings slipped away. Final score Lakewood 70-Portland 68. Owen Russell led all scorers with 21 points. Aryan Virk contributed 18 and Sophomore Trent Meyers, who had a solid game on both ends of the court, chipped in 11 for the Raiders.
Bryant Mackey paced Lakewood with 19 points, followed by Jake Ellenbaus with 17, Dewey Sauers added 15 and Jayce Cusak finished with 10. Portland returns to action on Friday night when they host the league leading and undefeated Ionia Bulldogs.
