589th Engineer Battalion - Vietnam Honors It's Fallen
On Memorial Day weekend, in small cemeteries across the nation, surviving members of the 589th Engineer Battalion Association – Vietnam will conduct flower placing ceremonies to honor each of the 26 individuals who died while serving with the unit in Vietnam.
The list includes Norman Elan (Norm) Goodman, of Portland. Bob Reinsmith of Sumner MI will lead the Honor Our Fallen ceremony for Norman, his brother, at Portland City Cemetery.
Goodman, 20, was lost in Ninh Thuan Province, South Vietnam on January 14, 1969. He served with C Company of the 589th Engineer Battalion. Survivors include: three sisters, Joyce Curns, Gladys Fernholz and Carol Schinaver all of Portland, and three brothers, Jerry, Gene both of Portland and Ron of Lansing.
Members of the public are encouraged to attend.
