Cast Member Lyndsey Camp gives preview of PHS spring musical production “The Addams Family”

My name is Lyndsey Camp. I’m a junior at Portland High School, and I am Morticia Addams in the upcoming spring musical production of The Addams Family. For the most part, I partake in the acting, singing, and dancing aspects when it comes to productions put on by the high school. We started with rehearsals for 3 days each week and then progressed to 5 days or even 6 days a week after winter break. The cast puts in such incredible work, as well as passion and determination to improve their skills as an actor. Their hard work is what brings their characters, and the show itself, to life.

The cast also lends a hand when the crew needs it. As this year was my first year working with the crew to assist with the assembly of set pieces and other projects. Throughout the experience, I learned life skills, like drilling in screws and measuring, and I learned to saw off pieces of wood and other materials. Every new skill I learned will be important for me to know in the future for set building. Set pieces that I helped create include: the Addams family tree, the gates, the pillars, and painting of the stage. If you are interested in seeing these pieces and their processes, as well as the final product, you should visit the Portland High School Drama Club YouTube channel, our website, and more importantly, you should come see the show so you can see these masterpieces in person.

The cast, crew, and production team have put their blood, sweat, and tears into this show and I couldn’t be more thankful to be a part of such a wonderful group of individuals. I honestly have never been more excited to play a role as iconic as Morticia Addams and I am ecstatic to show my interpretation of her off to the town of Portland. She’s an absolute delight to play, and finally being able to perform her songs and dance numbers will make all the strenuous and hard work worthwhile. If you are interested, come see the show at Portland High School on March 9th, 10th, and 11th at 7 in the evening. I believe I can speak for everyone when I say, we are thrilled about the evolution of our show since it started in November and cannot wait to perform it for the people of Portland. We hope that you decide to come see it, and all the pure love, and effort we put into this production!
