Did you know that Michigan’s honeybees came from Europe? Or that the sweet treats they provide are among the healthiest of all foods?

Join us for Honeybees and Other Pollinators, a free informational seminar on Tuesday, May 20, at 6:30 PM at First Congregational Church (421 E. Bridge St.) in Portland. Will SaintAmour, a beekeeper from Charlotte, will lead a fascinating discussion about the life cycle of honeybees, how you can help them and other threatened pollinators through backyard plantings, and why managing your own hive can be a fun—and profitable—hobby.

Do you enjoy drinking mead, one of the world’s oldest adult beverages? Learn how to make great mead by applying Will’s fermentation tips and techniques.

This event is the second Nature Therapy offering, a monthly community-outreach program co-sponsored by First Congregational Church and Portland Parks & Recreation. Designed to inform, inspire, and connect people with Portland’s unique outdoor recreational opportunities, Nature Therapy seminars are free and open to all. While registration is not required, signing up will help us better plan future programming.

Upcoming events include Portland’s Wild Edibles (June), Be A Better Gardener (July), and Portland Area Fishing Hotspots (August). Stay tuned!
