Anthony Sands is a physician assistant (PA) with a new private practice in Portland.

Anthony was wounded in Iraq while serving a tour of duty with the Army National Guard. He was treated there by a

physician assistant who took a personal interest in Anthony’s welfare. Anthony was so impressed by the compassion of the

physician assistant who was treating him that he decided to become a PA himself, and to dedicate his life to helping other people.

“Our practice in Portland is devoted to providing personal care,” said Anthony. “It involves knowing the patient in a personal way in order to provide the finest care possible for that individual.”

Anthony felt called to open his own practice in order to provide this high level of care. His wife, Rachell helps out as office manager.

“This clinic would not be open without her,” said Anthony. “She has a vast amount of responsibility. Rachell makes sure that patients are referred to the proper specialists and she helps our patients get the care that they need at our clinic.”

The Sands are very family oriented. They have two young daughters. “My daughters have had a tremendous influence on me,” said Anthony. “They have helped make me a caring person. This sense of care translates into the personal touch that describes our practice.”

Anthony attended Western Michigan University where he was granted a Master Degree of Science and Medicine. This degree allows Anthony to care for people’s medical needs as a PA.

Anthony feels blessed to be in Portland. “I have so much family in this city,” he said. “Being here allows me to stay connected to my parents, to my brother, and to other immediate family members who live here. We feel grateful to experience community the way that we do in Portland.”

When not engaged in his practice, Anthony enjoys golfing with his family. He also enjoys getting to know the community.

“I feel thankful in every way to be here,” he said. “I put my heart into helping people and they in turn help us. We are truly blessed.”
