The varsity baseball and softball teams for both Portland High School and St. Patrick School were in action on Thursday night.  Here is a recap of the action.

St. Patrick Softball

The Shamrocks traveled to Bath this evening to play a league matchup doubleheader. Each team got one win.

Game 1: St. Patrick 2, Bath 0

The Shamrocks won the first game 2-0. Mattie Honsowitz pitched an electric game with 14 strikeouts and an efficiently pitched game. At the plate Gracelyn Rockey went 2-3, Lily Sandborn went 1-2 and Mattie Honsowitz had an RBI. The team communicated clearly, were disciplined and worked cohesively.

Game 2: Bath 21, St. Patrick 6

The Shamrocks lost game 2, 6-21. The Lady Shamrocks struggled to be consistent in pitching and split the game between Mattie Honsowitz, Gracelyn Rockey, Kennedy Drake and Macie Leonard. Together they had 9 strikeouts but gave up 12 hits. Marian Davlin picked the team up on the 4th inning and started a nice rally against the Bees.  RBIs were produced by Naomi Hass, Megan Myers and Macie Leonard.

Coach Notes:

“Our goals this year include learning our defensive positions and doing small things correctly, being disclaimed at the plate, and becoming a team that can compete on the post season. We truly believe we saw that team in Game 1 and want to focus on that game to continue building forward.”
