Ionia County Shoot-Out Tournament at Morrison Lake Golf Course
At one of Michigan’s longest running high school boy’s golf tournaments, the Ionia County Shoot-Out, the majority of Portland varsity boy’s golfers struggled with mixed stretches of decent and ill-fated play at Saturday’s match. Under some very nice weather conditions for mid-April, the eighteen-hole event was played at the Morrison Lake Golf Course.
Portland’s 356 total placed them well off the solid round turned in by the winning 332 score posted by Belding. It is the first time ever that Belding has won the Ionia County Shootout. Ionia earned runners up honors with team score of 340. Lakewood edge out the Raiders for third with a 354. Pewamo-Westphalia finished the tournament with 418.
The one Portland highlight came in by the solid, individual, medalist round played by Isaac Howsowitz. Isaac took top honors out of the field of thirty golfers shooting a two-over-par 72.
Others scoring for Portland were: Kaleb Bower who carded a 92; Trent Durrant finished with a 94; Layne Painter and Carter Higbee each turned in rounds of 97.
The Raider’s return to action on Thursday, April 20th for the fourth time this spring at Maplebrook Golf Course in Charlotte. There the Raiders will compete in the second of six CAAC White Division golf jamborees.
