Lady Raiders open season with win over Bath


The Portland High School girls basketball team traveled to Bath on Tuesday night to open their 2022-2023 basketball season. The Raiders jumped out to and early 11-1 lead and defeated the Fighting Bees 43-23.


Bath was led by senior Anabelle Klusak who scored four points.


The Raider offense was led by junior Malia Thelen with 16 points. Freshman Lilly Thelen scored 11 points. Juniors Ella Gruber and Jayden Townsend each scored five points. Junior Alexa Weber added four points while sophomore Paige Spedoske scored two points for Portland.


The up-tempo Raider defense held the Bees to only six field goals in the contest.


Scoring by quarter:

1st – 2nd – 3rd – 4th – Final

Portland 11 – 10 – 13 – 9 – 43

Bath 1 – 9 – 2 – 11 – 23


The young Portland team has no senior players on the roster this season. They feature five juniors, two sophomores, and four freshmen.


Portland’s next action is set for Friday night when the host Williamston at 7:00. Williamston opened their season with a 61-50 loss to Flint Carman-Ainsworth.
