Lady Raiders top Eaton Rapids before loss to East Lansing
The Portland High School girls’ basketball team just finished the first of several three game weeks in the compressed 2021 season. After beating Lansing Catholic on Tuesday, the Raider squad traveled to Eaton Rapids on Friday, followed by a trip to East Lansing on Saturday

The Lady Raiders jumped out to an early 16-7 lead over the Greyhounds of Eaton Rapids on Friday night, and never looked back.
Junior Ashley Bower led Portland with 23 points. Juniors Ava Guilford and Breckyn Werner added 11 and 10 points to the Raider offense respectively. Seniors Ava Gruber and Grace Sines, along with Juniors Alivia Densmore and Shalyn Dziewiatkowski, all contributed points for Portland.
Eaton Rapids was led offensively by Sophomore Ashley Brown and Junior Adi Sysum who each scored seven points.

East Lansing 64, Portland 35
On Saturday, the Lady Raiders traveled to East Lansing to face a powerful Trojan squad. East Lansing defeated Grand Ledge decisively 76-35 in their first game of the season.
The Lady Raiders were able to stay neck and neck with the Trojans for the first quarter, with the quarter ending with both teams tied at eight points, but East Lansing proved to be too much for the Portland squad in the final three quarters of play.
The Trojans were led by Junior Ella Miller with 17 points, and Senior Annelise Lebeda with 16 points.
Bower led Portland with 16 points. Gruber (2), Dziewiatkowski (2), Guilford (3), Hannah Schrauben (3), Densmore (5), Werner (2) and Sines (2) each scored for the Raiders.

Portland moves to 2-1 overall, and 2-0 in the CAAC White.
Next week the Lady Raiders have another three-contest week. They host Charlotte on Tuesday, travel to Ionia on Friday, and host St. Johns on Saturday.
