Laynie Meredith and Cozie Brown advance to Cross Country states

On Saturday, October 24, both Laynie Meredith and Cozie Brown both qualified for the regional cross country meet by finishing first and third respectively at the pre-regional cross country meet at Carson City.  

At the regional meet in Dewitt on October 31st, Laynie and Cozie were ranked 8th and 9th respectively.  They both knew that to advance to the state meet they needed to finish in the top 7 individuals not associated with a team that advanced to the state finals.  At the one mile mark, they were running in 7th and 8th place overall respectively.  They fought off several competitors and advanced to 5th and 6th place overall by the 2 mile mark.  Laynie was struggling, but with some encouragement from team captain Cozie, she refocused and completed the race in 6th place overall with a time of 21:12 while Cozie finished in 6th place overall with a time of 21:14.  Both girls beat the school record (set by Cozie last year) and earned regional medals.

Both Laynie and Cozie now advance to the state championship meet on Saturday, November 7th, at 3:00 pm.
