Haunted Harvest Carnival
Have some spooky fun at the Portland District Library on Friday, October 27 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. during our Haunted Harvest Carnival! This all-ages event requires a ticket for entry, which can be picked up at the Youth Desk starting Monday, October 9. Ticket times include: 6:00, 6:20, 6:40, and 7:00 p.m. Tickets are first come, first served; there are a limited number available for each time slot. Dress in your favorite costume, trick-or-treat throughout the library, see what your future holds, spin the prize wheel, and more. Don’t forget to redeem your ticket punches for prizes before heading home!
Quilling Club
Have you ever heard of Quilling? It is the art of using strips of paper that are rolled, looped, curled, twisted and otherwise manipulated to create different shapes, and glued together to create decorative designs. Quilling designs can be used to decorate greeting cards, pictures, boxes, and more. The library is starting a drop-in quilling club in October, which will meet on the second Wednesday of each month—October 11 and November 8—from 6:30-7:30. We’ll work on our projects together, show each other new techniques we've learned, and share ideas.
Children’s and Teen
Books & Blankets October
Are you and your little ones ready to party the night away during Books & Blankets at the Portland District Library? Attend our monster bash in the Children’s Sensory Garden on Thursday, October 19 at 6:00 p.m. We’ll provide the party gear, but make sure you bring a blanket and the whole family brings their best dance moves. We’re sending everyone home with a book from our friends at the Ionia Great Start Collaborative to keep the party going! This program is recommended for families with children ages 8 & under. Registration is required!
Virtual STEM Club: Pan Flutes
October's Virtual STEM Club: Pan Flutes finds us exploring sound when we build a pan flute and find out what it takes to create music with it. Registration for Take-and-Make bags begins Wednesday, October 18. This program is recommended for ages 6-12, requires parental supervision, and is limited to 35 patrons.
