Local Businesses Partner with Portland High School to Enhance Career Readiness for Students

Announcement

In a proactive effort to align with the district's strategic plan and bolster career readiness among its students, Portland High School collaborated with the Ionia County Economic Alliance to organize an enriching field trip for high school students on November 30th. The trip, orchestrated by Ryan Wilson from the Ionia County Economic Alliance and Ms. Paige Patterson, School Counselor at PHS, aimed to provide students with firsthand insights into local businesses, emphasizing the importance of connecting students with trades and vocational opportunities.

The participating students from Portland High School were given the unique opportunity to explore and engage with three prominent local businesses: Devereaux Sawmill, Portland Products, and HomeWorks Tri-County Electric. Each of these establishments graciously opened its doors to the students, offering an immersive experience that shed light on their operations, the array of job opportunities available, and the requisite training for these positions.

Portland High school extends its sincere appreciation to Devereaux Sawmill, Portland Products, and HomeWorks Tri-County Electric for generously participating in this educational initiative. The district remains committed to fostering partnerships that enhance the educational experience of its students and prepare them for successful futures in various career fields.
