Merritt Farms: Quality Local Produce and Flowers

Brent and Natalie Merritt are local farmers who grow fresh produce and flowers for sale locally.

They grow pumpkins and sweetcorn as well as various flower varieties, including potted mums, tulips, daffodils, sunflowers, zinnias, and dahlias.

Brent grew up observing his uncle work a farm and he has many fond memories of helping his grandfather tend a large garden when Brent was a youngster. He and his wife have been growing pumpkins for two years and sweet corn for five years. They recently planted over five thousand tulips and daffodils which will produce flowers in the spring. The sunflowers, zinnias, and dahlias will be available for sale later in the summer.

“There is satisfaction in growing and selling produce and flowers, knowing that these things will bring families joy,” said Brent.

While Brent and Natalie have been growing produce for several years, growing flowers is a relatively new venture for them, and they have an innovative program for their customers in this regard.

“We are starting a project which we call “Fresh Blooms,” said Brent. “It is a fresh-cut flower bouquet membership that allows customers to enjoy the entire season with monthly blooms. It is an $85 subscription that begins in May and continues through August, for a total of four monthly bouquets.”

Brent said that this membership makes for a great Christmas gift.

“We are currently accepting orders for the membership,” he said. “If someone purchases the membership as a gift for someone else, then we will mail out a gift card to the recipient of the gift on behalf of the purchaser,” he said.

Another innovative program that Brent and Natalie are starting up is known as a “bouquet bar.”

“We will have fresh-cut flowers available in containers here at the farm,” he said. “Customers will pick-out what they want from those containers among the various varieties on hand and they will thus create their own custom arrangements in this way.”

Brent and Natalie clearly enjoy their farming venture.

“It gives us great satisfaction to grow produce and flowers,” said Brent. “It is also gratifying to bring joy to our customers and to hear back from them by letters, photos, and videos. We are thankful for the support that our community has shown us and we look forward to the 2023 growing season. Fresh-cut flowers will be available from us in May.”

The link to sign up for the “Fresh Blooms” program is found on Brent and Natalie’s Facebook page under “Merritt Farms.”

The “bouquet bar” events will also be announced on their Facebook page.
