Michael Culp State Farm Insurance Agency

Michael Culp offers auto, home, life, farm, business, and health insurance. He has been in business in Portland since 2000.

Mike grew up in Marshall, Michigan and moved to Portland in 1999. His wife, Jennifer, practices chiropractic medicine.  They have five children.

“I was originally a senior financial analyst with a Fortune 100 Company,” said Mike. “But when I moved to Portland in 1999, I discovered that the owner of the local State Farm agency was retiring. I saw an opportunity to take his place, and have been with State Farm ever since,”

Mike really enjoys what he does. “What I like most about the insurance business is building great relationships,” said Mike. “I’m able to help people every day and I’m so appreciative for that opportunity.”

Mike employs two other agents in addition to himself, Kaelea McCliggott and Jennifer Sattler.

“We are all fully licensed,” he said. “We take the time necessary to interview clients and to access what their insurance needs are and what is most important to them.  The client drives the entire conversation, and we do our very best to meet their needs with the products that we offer.”

Mike said that insurance is very important.

“Clients have worked hard their whole lives to accumulate assets (such as homes, vehicles, retirement savings, etc.) and insurance is the key to protecting those assets,” he said. “Clients could be devastated if they lost all that they’ve sacrificed to attain. Insurance gives people peace of mind.”

Mike said that life can throw people curves at any time.

“One of the most serious events, from an insurance perspective, that I have had to deal with is the tornado that shook Portland in 2015,” he said. “We were immediately there for people.  Five minutes after the catastrophe, we (Mike’s team) were on the street talking to people and accessing the steps that we needed to take to best help them. This is the value of working with a local agent rather than with a company online. We are able to offer the personal touch and we assist people directly and immediately.”

Mike even gives his clients his personal cell phone number so that he can assist them after office hours.

“I am truly here for them,” he said.

Mike said that his plans for the future include assisting Portland in any way he can for as long as he can.

“I really love my job,” he said. “I love interacting with my clients and I feel grateful to be able to help them. I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else.”
