Obituary for Byron K. Kincaid, Jr.

Byron Kyle Kincaid, Jr., age 76, of Portland, loving husband, dad, grandpa, brother, and friend, unexpectedly passed away on Saturday, July 8, 2023 surrounded by his family.

He was born on November 24, 1946 in West Virginia, the son of Byron and Blanche Kincaid, Sr.

Byron served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. While stationed in Germany, he served as a cook, attained the rank of Army Specialist 5, and received a National Defense Service Medal along with a sharpshooter medal.

After various employments, he began working for General Motors at the Fisher Body plant in Lansing and retired after 30 years on the assembly line.

Byron “Buggs”, a life-long Catholic, was known by many as possessing a strong spirit with a bit of stubbornness, too. He enjoyed farming, hunting, wood working, and tinkering in his shop. He also loved word puzzles, watching sports, collecting hats, and spending time with his children and grandchildren in Florida, especially at Christmas.

Preceding Byron in death are his parents, his brother, Steven Kincaid, and his niece, Becky Beech.

He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Mary K., children, Vicki (Ralph) Yazdiya and Amy (Mike) Forquer, grandchildren, Bryce, Ethan, Ava, and Parker, and siblings, Michael Kincaid, Tom (Jan) Kincaid, Patricia (Mark) Beech, Debra (Gary) Sochor, and Susan (Brad) Paul, along with many nieces and nephews.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Fr. James Eisele at 11:00 a.m., Friday, July 14, 2023 at St. Michael Catholic Church, Grand Ledge. The family will receive friends at the Lehman Funeral Home, 210 E. Bridge Street, Portland on Thursday from 5-8 p.m. with a rosary being prayed at 7:00 p.m. For those wishing, memorial contributions may be made to Michigan AgrAbility in honor of Byron.
