Obituary for Deborah Ann (Captain) Byar

Deborah Ann (Captain) Byar, age 65, of Grand Rapids, passed away peacefully on May 21, 2021. She was born in Lorain, Ohio, the daughter of George and Mary (Kapantas) Captain. Deborah loved to bowl and was on a team and competed. She enjoyed participating in the Cottage Bar Chili Cook-off every year with friends and family and received first place multiple times. She truly cherished spending time with her family, going to the beach, on the boat, and camping. One of her greatest joys was her grandchildren - she loved spoiling them with gifts and her love, and was always there for them. She spent the last couple of years working and taking care of the elderly at Beacon Hill which she really enjoyed. Preceding Deborah in death are her parents, George and Mary Captain. Left behind to treasure her legacy are her son, Ben Byar; daughter, Sophia (Brad) Bailey; grandchildren, Amara, Wyatt, and Walker; and sisters, Donna (Gus) Markou and Joanne (Don) Jones. A Memorial Service celebrating Deborah's life will be officiated by Pastor Jimmy Guffey at 12:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 26, 2021 at the Portland Church of the Nazerene, 9466 Cutler Road, Portland.
