Obituary for Donald Robert Gross
Donald Robert Gross, age 86, of Portland, passed away on Wednesday, November 6, 2024. Don was a good man, wonderful father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He was a member of St. Patrick Church and graduated from St. Patrick School in 1957. Don served in the U.S. Army, was a member of the American Legion Post #129 in Portland and retired from General Motors after 32 years of service. He enjoyed hunting, gardening, and woodworking. Don loved his time at Holland Lake with family and friends and spending winters in Florida with his wife, Dee.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Annie (Wayne) Schrauben; brother, Stanley (Jane) Gross; brothers-in-law, William Schrauben, Thomas Zimmerman, and Gordon Lehman; grandson, Joshua M. Heminger; father and mother-in-law, George and Sue Lehman. On August 13, 1960, he married Delores “Dee” and together they spent 64 wonderful years together.
Don is survived by Dee; children, Susan Heminger, Robert (Stacy) Gross, Elizabeth Gross, Thomas (Robin) Gross, Craig Gross and Scott (Rachel) Gross; 14 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren with one on the way; siblings, Marie Schrauben, Rita (Steve) Snitgen, Alice Zimmerman, Mary (Rocky) Beckhold and Gary (Carolle) Gross; sister-in-law, Patricia Ann Ollar; many nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. Mike Alber at 11:30 a.m., Thursday, November 14, 2024, at St. Patrick Church, Portland. Rite of Committal will be in Portland Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4:00-7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 13, 2024, at the Lehman Funeral Home, 210 E. Bridge St., Portland.
