Obituary for Eugene Norman Maurer, Sr.
On May 9, 2021, Eugene Norman Maurer Sr., of Portland, passed away in his home surrounded by family. He is survived by his loving & devoted wife Charlotte of almost 50 years; Children Violet Maurer of Holt, Elaine (Phil) Hosler of Cassopolis, Gail (Todd) Munday of Portland, Eugene Maurer Jr. of Pontiac and grandchildren Seth & Shayla Moore. He was preceded in death by his parents and seven siblings.
Gene was born in Laingsburg Mi on June 29, 1932. He was formerly of Lansing and moved to Portland 48 years ago. Gene had a passion for well drilling and started his own company Gene Maurer Well Service Inc. in 1953 and incorporated it into Maurer & Parks Welldrilling, after retirement from the company an he started Gene Maurer Well Service until he retired at the age of 85. Gene served in the National Guard from 1951-1953.
He enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing cards and gambling at the casino.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. Mike Alber at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, May 13, 2021 at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Portland. Visitation will be at Lehman Funeral Home, 210 E. Bridge St., Portland on Wednesday from 2-4 and 6-8 pm. The rosary will be prayed at 3:00 p.m. The family will also receive friends from 10:30 a.m. until the time of the Mass on Thursday. Rite of Committal will be in Keefer-Olmstead Cemetery. On line condolences may be made at www.lehmanfuneralhomes.com. In lieu of flowers, all donations will be divided between Gene’s favorite charities.
