Obituary for Frederick Edward Hart

Frederick Edward Hart, 92, of Sunfield, Michigan, passed away at home with his family around him on October 10th, 2022. He was born on December 30th, 1929, in Mason, Michigan to Walter and Maude (Halifax) Hart.

After graduating from Portland High School in 1949, he went on to join the Army in 1951, serving for one year in Germany. Upon returning home, he began working for General Motors, where he had the opportunity to assemble his own car, a 1954 turquoise and white Holiday Coupe. During his 34 years of service with General Motors, he also farmed 100 acres.

In 1955, he met Hope (Jackson), whom he later married in 1956. Together, they purchased the home and surrounding land on Musgrove Hwy., where they raised all five children. In 1992, they built a new home down the road and remained there ever since.

Fred was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, and woodworking. He attended as many sporting and school events as his children and grandchildren participated in, taking him all over the state, and occasionally out of state as well.

He was born during the Depression and was raised with just the basics in life. This had a profound effect on him, where as an adult, he always put in an honest day’s work and valued every dollar he ever made. He was very proud of all he had accomplished in life, but his greatest accomplishment of all was his family. You knew you held a special place in his heart when you walked into a room and saw that twinkle in his eye and smile across his face.

He was preceded in death by both his parents, sister Thelma (Julius) Smith, sister Ruby (Fred) Reynolds, mother-in-law Golda Jackson and many other family members and close friends. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Hope (Jackson), his five children Candy Hart of Sunfield, MI, Melody (William) Rodgers of Hastings, MI, Darrius (Cynthia) Hart of Vermontville, MI, Shona (Duane) Geiger of Clarksville, MI and Dana Hart of Portland, MI, his eight grandchildren Lyndsay (Josh) Grasman, Jordan (Jeffrey) Brown, Konnor Geiger, Kennedy Geiger, Angela Kramer, Jackson (Lindsay) Desgranges, Aubree Desgranges, and Lyndan Desgranges and his very special great-grandson Weston Brown.

Special thanks to Sparrow Hospice, especially Nurse Miranda, for all the care and comfort they provided to Fred and family over the last few months.

Visitation will take place on Thursday, October 13th from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Sunfield United Brethren Church, 8436 W. Grand Ledge Hwy, Sunfield, MI. A Celebration of Life will take place on Friday, October 14th at 11:00 a.m. at Sunfield United Brethren Church, with a luncheon to follow. After one last stop at his home and farm on Musgrove Hwy, interment will take place at the East Sebewa Cemetery, Bippley Rd., Sunfield, MI at 1:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Sunfield Fire Department or a charity of one’s choice.
