Obituary for Garret Andrew Hoppes

Garret Andrew Hoppes, age 27, of Portland, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on January 11, 2024. Born on December 4, 1996, to Kyle Hoppes and Lizzie (Moyer) Hoppes, Garret was a kind soul who touched the hearts of all who knew him.

A graduate of St. Patrick High School, Class of 2015, Garret left a lasting mark on those around him. He was not one for many words, but when he spoke, people listened, fascinated by his witty one-liners that never failed to bring smiles to those in his presence. Garret had a deep love for music and was an avid concertgoer. He thrived outdoors, and he found joy in the simple beauty of nature. Garret marched to the beat of his own drum and he fully embraced his uniqueness. Though he never sought the spotlight, Garret was always happy to be involved and invited to gatherings, bringing a sense of warmth and authenticity to every occasion. In the face of any challenge, he displayed remarkable strength and resilience and was never one to complain. Animals held a special place in Garret's heart, and his beloved dog, Stella, was a constant source of companionship and comfort. Above all, Garret treasured his family and close group of friends. His nephews, Aiden and Brody, and niece, Everly, were his entire world. Garret was proud to be known as "Uncle G" and he embraced his title with unparalleled love and devotion. Garret will be remembered for the laughter he brought, the strength he embodied, and the love he shared.

Surviving Garret are his mother, Lizzie (Moyer) Hoppes; father, Kyle (Shelli Lefke) Hoppes; sister, Michelle (Brandon) Trierweiler; brother, Preston Scheurer; nephews, Aiden and Brody Trierweiler; niece, Everly Trierweiler; stepbrother, Tyler (Mary) Turnquist; grandparents, Jim (Val) Moyer, Glenna Moyer, Tom and Jill Hoppes, and Kaye Lefke; many aunts, uncles, cousins, and close friends.
