In Loving Memory of Iris Fern (Ward) Roper

11/10/1934 – 10/26/2023

Sunfield, Michigan

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Iris Fern (Ward) Roper, a devoted wife, a loving mother, and a faithful Christian. Iris peacefully joined her beloved husband, Robert, in eternal rest on October 26, 2023. She was a true pillar of strength and inspiration for her family.

Iris was born in Elberta, Michigan, and from a young age, her kindness and devotion shone brightly. She met her loving husband, Robert (Bob), and they embarked on a beautiful journey together, sharing their lives and love for one another. He preceded her in death in 2013, and their reunion in heaven brings solace to the hearts of their children. They raised six children Robert, Rose, Michael, David, Sharon, and Lisa. Later in life adopting Sam, which truly demonstrated her love and kindness.

As a mother of several children, Iris primarily worked from home, dedicating herself to nurturing her children with unwavering love and care. She was even a full-time babysitter for neighborhood children and grandchildren. Her faith in God was the cornerstone of her life, and she instilled these values in her family, leaving behind a legacy of love, compassion, and faith. Many hours of singing in the car will be cherished memories for her children.

Iris was known for her warm smile, her open heart, great sense of humor, and her willingness to help others in their times of need. She was a dedicated member of her local church and actively participated in various community and church activities, touching the lives of many. She was a member of “Red Hatters”, and enjoyed senior luncheons, as well as, the community Monday night dinners.

Her legacy will forever live on in the hearts of her children and all those who had the privilege of knowing her. While we mourn her passing, we also celebrate the beautiful life she lived and the profound impact she had on her family and community. Many wonderful relatives proceeded her in death. Surviving are Robert (Deborah) Roper Jr., Rose (Jarrell) Baker, Michael (Susan) Roper, David Roper, Sharon Roper, Lisa (J.R.) Bell, Samuel (Rebecca) Roper, along with many, many grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Services to honor and remember Iris will be held at a future date. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to the Sunfield District Library, as it was one of Iris's favorite causes.

The family is deeply grateful for the support and condolences during this difficult time. Please join us in celebrating the life of Iris and keeping her memory alive in our hearts.
