Obituaries

Age 87 passed away July 2 after a valiant battle with Lewy Body dementia.  Born October 9, 1936, in Vermontville, the son of William and LaBurl Hill.  He graduated from Portland High School and attended Lansing Community College before joining the Army. He and Sharon Van Polen were married in 1962.  He started work as a draftsman at Reo Motors before going to the newly founded Spartan Motors in Charlotte, working as an engineer until his retirement in 1990.  He loved golf (especially with his son), fishing, gardening, gambling in Biloxi, and watching Lions and Tigers ball games. He designed and built beautiful and unique items in his woodshop.

He and Sharon spent over 20 winter seasons in Gulf Shores, AL making wonderful friends there.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Billy (Loreita) and sister Carol (Ron) Lovewell. He is survived by Sharon, his loving wife of 61 years, son Todd, daughter-in-law Carrie, and grandson Gerrit as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Thanks to family and friends for their prayers and love during this time. Very special thanks to Country Living and Hospice for their compassionate care.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

If desired, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Lansing and Ionia or the Portland Food Bank. Online condolences may be made at www.lehmanfuneralhomes.com.

Brother Bill and Old George Allen await you on the great river and across the brook to talk and laugh, fish, trap and be a boy again. God Bless you Jack
