Obituary for Joseph Allen Smith

Joseph Allen Smith, of Portland, passed away December 13, 2022 at the age of 64. He was born in Lansing, Michigan on February 6, 1958 to James and Phyllis (Dryer) Smith. In Joe’s early years he enjoyed fishing with his father and often went to church with his grandmother, growing up Catholic. Joe loved the simple things in life - riding in the truck with his wife, Mary, walking around town, going to McDonald’s, and spending time at the Wagon Wheel having a Hermie Burger. Joe was an avid sports fan, he especially liked watching the Detroit Tigers, the Lions, and the University of Michigan. Joe will be missed by all who knew him.

Preceding him in death are his father, James; grandmother, Antoinette “Nettie” Smith; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins. Surviving are his loving wife of 26 years, Mary (Hoffman) Smith; mother, Phyllis; brother, Jim (Ann) Smith; sister, Debbie (Bob) Garland; sister-in-law, Stacy (fiance, Mike Cannon) Onan; and several nieces and nephews.

The Funeral Service honoring Joseph will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, December 17, 2022 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 7943 S. Keefer Highway, Portland.
