Obituary for Richard John Buckland




Richard John Buckland, passed away at his home in Portland, Michigan on January 10, 2024 at the age of 81. He was born August 7, 1942 in Escanaba, Michigan, the son of Edward and Mildred (Jensen) Buckland.


Richard dedicated 30 years of his life to General Motors, contributing his skills and dedication until his well-deserved retirement. He was known for his proficiency as a jack of all trades, possessing the remarkable ability to fix anything that came his way.


Richard was a passionate University of Michigan fan. His love for the Wolverines was a testament to his strong spirit and loyalty. In his leisure time, Richard enjoyed the great outdoors, especially fishing. Additionally, he enjoyed engaging in mental challenges, spending hours immersed in puzzles, games, ping pong, and pool. He will be missed by all who knew him.


Preceding Richard in death are his parents and several brothers and sisters. He is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Joyce Buckland; children, Richard “Scott” (Robin) Buckland, Brian Buckland, Jeff Buckland, Rebecca (Karl) Bach, Matt (Neille) Buckland, Ken (Jodi) Buckland, Mark (Angela) Buckland, and Brenda (Mike) Gosselin; 30 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; siblings, Gayla Moras, Bill (Eileen) Buckland, and Barbara Julien; several nieces and nephews; and special friends, Bob and Barb Ingraham.


A Celebration of Life will be held on May 5, 2024 from 1:00-4:00 p.m. at The Red Mill, 349 North Water Street, Portland. Arrangements are entrusted to Lehman Funeral Homes. Online condolences may be made at www.lehmanfuneralhomes.com.
