PHS Softball goes 1-2 in “Jack Anderson Invitational”
On Saturday, the Portland High School softball team hosted Ovid-Elsie, Holt and Petoskey for the “Jack Anderson Invitational”, a tournament named in honor of Portland’s long-time coach.
Game 1: Portland 4, Ovid-Elsie 3
Junior Jayden Townsend pitched the complete game for Portland, holding OE to three runs while striking out six and walking only two.
Offensively Portland combined 11 hits scoring four runs. Sophomore Autumn Reffitt went three for four with a double. Sophomore Bailee Fish and freshman Claire Lyon each had two hits for the Raiders. Townsend had a triple.
Game 2: Holt 7, Portland 0
Freshman Bella Spitzley pitched the complete game for Portland, striking out three and allowing no walks.
Holt’s K. Sandberg had a dominate performance on the mound striking out 10 Raiders and allowing only one hit. That one hit was by Townsend.
Game 3: Petoskey 10, Portland 6
In the final contest of the day, Portland compiled 12 hits, but fell to Petoskey 10-6.
Townsend pitched the first two innings for Portland, striking out three. Spitzley pitched the next five innings striking out two.
Lyon led the Portland offense with three hits, including a double and a triple. Freshman Lilly Thelen and Reffitt each had two hits. Fish had a double for Portland.
Ahead
The Raiders are now three and four on the season. They kick off league play on Tuesday when they travel to Charlotte. On Thursday they will host Fowlerville. On Saturday they are scheduled to head to Bailey Park in Battle Creek to participate in the Gull Lake Invitational.
