Portland Baseball Splits with Grand Ledge on Saturday


The Raiders ended Grand Ledge’s seven game winning streak on Saturday beating them 2-1 in the first game. The Raiders were headed into the 7th inning with a 1-1 ball game. In the top of the 7th Evan Thelen’s sacrifice fly scored one run and put them ahead 2-1. The lefthander, Marc Nobis pitched a complete game allowing four hits and striking out eight Comets in seven innings. The Raiders offense tallied eight hits. Barrett Brennan and Caden Thelen were 2-4 while Evan Thelen was 2-3. Marc Nobis and Marky Meyers each added hits for the Raiders.

In the second game of the afternoon the Raiders struggled to put runs on the board while Grand Ledge jumped to an early lead. Caden Thelen started on the bump for the Raiders pitching four innings striking out five and giving up five hits. Paul Roberts came in and pitched the last one and one-half innings striking out one and giving up five hits. Offensively the Raiders had four hits in the game. Caden Thelen lead going 2-2 along with Gunner Williams and Carson Martin each adding a hit.


The Raiders are 15-5 overall.
