Portland bowlers perform well at Battle of Bakers and at Ionia
On Sunday, the Portland Raiders bowling teams competed in the Battle of the Bakers at M66 in Battle Creek.
The Girls qualified 4th and fell in the first round of match play after a hard fought match. They finished tied for 5th.
The Varsity Boys qualified 1st with a 174 average. Won the first match 2-0, but lost the next match and finished in 4th place.
On Tuesday, the Raiders traveled to the Bowling Alley in Ionia to compete against the Ionia Bulldogs bowling teams.
The Varsity girls lost their first match of the season 26-4 high girl of the day was Lilly Keller with a 152 high game and a 301 two game series.
On the boys side we had a record breaking type of day.
The JV Boys won 30-0. They were led by Shane Callahan with a game of 211 and two game series of 364. And led by Ryan Graft who had a high game of 223 and a two game series of 351. In the second team game this JV team bowled 8442 which is the highest JV score that I have on record. For the day they had a total pinfall of 1930 for a 161 average, which is also the highest JV pinfall I have on record.
The Varsity boys won 27-3. They were led by Eli Dakin who had a high game of 223 and a two game series of 405. Game 2 was magical for varsity as well as they bowled a 981 which again is the highest team score I have on record. They had a total pinfall of 2196 for an average of 183, which again is the highest I have on record.
Coach Ryan Humphrey said, “Just a stellar day all around for the boys.”
