Portland Country Club is getting a new look

New owners Paul Trierweiler and his sons Kyle and Josh are remodeling the clubhouse and they are making important enhancements to the course itself.
“We want to retain the basic design of the course while making some notable improvements,” said new owner Paul Trierweiler. “We are adding sand traps, we’re removing some of the trees, and we are repairing the irrigation system. The clubhouse will have a completely wide-open layout with a new bar, a new restaurant, and a new kitchen. We are also adding a new deck. The clubhouse will soon be a beautiful facility.”
The Trierweilers are dairy farmers by trade and they have always enjoyed playing golf at the club. They have hired experts, including a golf course architect, to help them with the grand renovation of the facility. Mr. Trierweiler said that they are dedicated to retaining the historical significance of the club while adding value to it. They are also bringing back some of the features of the club that were an important aspect of its past.
“We are bringing back the junior golf program that was such a valuable component of the club years ago,” he said. “This will be furnished to juniors ages seven through thirteen at very low cost.”
The Trierweilers are also planning to promote the “club culture” that was part of the club when they themselves were young,
“We want to create a real country club atmosphere with a family orientation,” said Trierweiler. “We are increasing membership in the club and we are bringing back some of the special events that were an important part of the club in the 1960s and 1970s, such as the club championship tournament and the famous two-day thirty-six hole best ball tournament that was an exciting feature of the club years ago.”
The new club will have a family orientation. It will build on the past as well as make room for new features.
“We want to bring new faces to the club who will have new ideas,” said Trierweiler. “We wish to build on what we already have.”
Golf on the course will be available to members beginning on April 1st. The course will be available to the general public a few weeks later as renovations and construction continue. Much of the new amenities that the Trierweilers are planning will be in place by mid-summer.
The Trierweilers are already grateful to the community for its show of support.
“With time we know that we will have the facility in great shape and we hope that it will prove to be a real asset to the community,” said Trierweiler. “We respect the legacy of Portland County Club and we are excited about its future. We will make the club a special place for the entire family.”
