Portland District Library News
It’s that time of year again . . . tax time! The library has a long history of providing free forms for federal, state, and city taxes, which we are happy to do. Thus far we have gotten City of Portland forms and booklets, MI 1040 forms, booklets, and Schedule 1, and federal 1040 forms and booklets. As always, we will be happy to help you find the forms you need online and print them out for 15 cents per page.
Puzzle It Out
What could be better when winter blusters and blows than to be warm and cozy and working on a jigsaw puzzle? Join us for the Portland District Library’s fifth jigsaw puzzle contest on Saturday, February 11. Sign up as a group of 2-4 puzzlers, or as an individual to be placed in a group. Puzzle solving starts at 11:00 a.m. and goes until 3:00 p.m., with lunch provided. The team closest to completion when time runs out wins. Each member of the winning team gets a prize. Ages 10 and up, with at least one adult per team. Registration required.
Children’s and Teen
Doodle, Draw, & Design
Practice design and engineering concepts with our new 3Doodler skills class. Doodle, Draw, & Design, for teens ages 13-18, has them learning how to use our 3D printing pens. This is a two-part program taking place Tuesday, February 7 and 21 from 3:30-4:30 p.m. Start with the basics and work your way up to creating structures and designs of all shapes and sizes! Registration is required, so make sure to call us at 517-647-6981 to snag your spot before they are gone.
Barks for Books
Our favorite furry friend Dixie will be at the library again this winter cheering on our young readers during Barks for Books! Sign-up for a 15-minute time slot, Thursday, February 23 from 5:00-6:30 pm. Readers, ages 6-12, will be able to practice reading aloud to a therapy trained dog which helps improve their communication skills while also building self-confidence. Patrons must pre-register by calling 517-647-6981 and be on time for their scheduled slot!
Ready, Set, Game!
Looking for something fun to do after school? Sign up for Ready, Set, Game! taking place on Wednesday, February 22 from 3:00-4:30 p.m. This is our new gaming program for patrons ages 8-14 where we’ll be pulling out our Nintendo Switch and offering a space to hang out and play games with friends. This is the first of hopefully many more Ready, Set, Game! programs to come this year. Registration is required and program is limited to 10 patrons ages 8-14.
