Portland District Library News

Murder In The Stacks

Autumn at the library can be a relaxing time of year… until someone turns up dead. In another classic case of whodunit, Murder in The Stacks is back at the Portland District Library! This all-ages, month-long murder mystery program will have you searching the library for clues, unlocking suspect interview videos, and collecting evidence. There are key witnesses and multiple suspects, but someone is lying. Do you have what it takes to figure out who? Put on your thinking caps and head to the library. Patrons will have until Saturday, December 16 to collect their evidence and take a guess at who committed the crime and why. One lucky sleuthing team will go home with a grand prize fit for only the best detectives!

Thanksgiving Closings

The library will be closed on Thursday, November 23 and Friday November 24 for the Thanksgiving holiday. We’ll be open regular hours on the Wednesday before and the Saturday after. And, as always, we are thankful for the support and enthusiasm of our patrons!

Frosty Holiday Cards

The holiday season and frosty weather go hand-in-hand, and now you can bring a frosted look to your holiday greetings. Using pearlescent watercolors and black cardstock, we will be creating festive cards for you to share. This in-person program will take place on November 29 at 6:00 p.m. Ages 15 and up, registration is required.

No-More-Needles Christmas Trees

Whether you choose real or artificial, Christmas trees are a lot of work. Between procuring, decorating, and storing, this piece of holiday décor can be a real pain! But what if you could make your tree and decorations out of felt? Safe for children and pets, this pretty tree takes up almost no storage space and sets up in a snap. Register anytime, and pick up your bag December 1. Ages 16 and up.

Children’s and Teen

Virtual STEM Club: Flying Reindeer

Do reindeer fly? We don't know about real reindeer, but in Virtual STEM Club: Flying Reindeer we will craft a cardboard reindeer and see if we can get it to fly. Registration for Take-and-Make bags begins Wednesday, November 15. This program is recommended for ages 6-12, requires parental supervision, and is limited to 35 patrons.

Teen Art Hour November: Wax on Wheels
