Portland football opens 2024 campaign with 39-25 win over Detroit Country Day
The Portland High School football team traveled to Detroit Country Day on Thursday to kick off their 2024 season. The Raiders and Yellowjackets put on quite a display in a game that could have easily gone either way for the first three quarters of play. But a 65-yard pick six by Portland junior Brady Rowe in the fourth quarter sealed the win for the Raiders.
Other leaders for the Portland defense included junior Keaton McGregor with nine tackles, senior AJ Weber with seven tackles, and senior Christopher Battley one sack and one interception. Junior Sawyer Goodman added one sack, and senior Barrett Spitzley blocked two kicks.
Junior running back Kayden Dickerson led the Portland offense with 170 yards and three touchdowns. Junior running back Nolan Zybtowski tallied 51 rushing yards with one touchdown, and one catch for 39 yards. Senior quarterback Dominic Novara had 37 yards and one touchdown on the ground, and went three of five passing for 66 yards.
