Portland’s Branson Goodman to wrestle at Olivet College

Portland High School senior Branson Goodman recently signed to wrestle at Olivet College next year.

While at PHS, Goodman wrestled all four years and played three years of varsity football.

His accomplishments at Portland include: 2020 wrestling state qualifier, 2021 all state wrestler, 2023 all state wrestling, and 2023 all state defensive linemen.

When asked about his decision to attend Olivet, Goodman said, “I chose this school because I grew close with the wrestling coach and knew he would help me grow. I also heard great things about Olivet’s insurance program and was confident they would help me reach my goals in that field.”

Goodman added, “I would like to thank all my coaches, teammates, and family for supporting me and cheering me on while I pursued my goals. I look forward to continue my wrestling career and am confident I will build an even bigger support system.”

PHS wrestling coach Andy Pulling said, "The Raider Wrestling Community is excited for Branson as he continues his academic and wrestling careers at Olivet College. Not only does Olivet have a historically competitive wrestling program, there is a rich history of Raider Wrestlers attending Olivet, competing at a high level and becoming successful professionals after college graduation. Branson has been a unique and successful student-athlete playing three sports and excelling at each. He is a goal-driven person who has learned how to adapt his lifestyle to meet his goals. Branson had an exciting wrestling career at PHS: 3x First Team CAAC White, 2x All-State, captain of a team that made program history on the mat and in the classroom. Branson left a permanent place in our program's history by earning 138 career wins - placing 15th all time and shattering Owen Guilford's (PHS '19, OC '23) pin record with 115 career pins. Needless to say, he is a smart and athletic person who knows how to both be a teammate and lead a team. We are excited to see and hear him continue his successes next school year at Olivet College."

Founded in 1844 and located in Olivet, MI, roughly 35 minutes Southwest of Lansing, Olivet College has an enrollment of 1,040. The Comets compete in NCAA Division III and are a member of the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association, America’s oldest college athletics conference.
