Portland softball drops two to ER, gets wins over Charlotte and Okemos

On Friday the 10th, the Raiders traveled to Eaton Rapids for a pair of league contests.

Portland fell to the Greyhounds in game one 1-0.  Sophomore Lilly Thelen got the only hit of the game for Portland.  Junior Bella Spitzley struck out five ER batters.

The Raiders tallied seven hits in the second game of the night, but fell 6-1.  L. Thelen (triple) and Spitzley each had two hits in the game.  Spitzley pitched five innings and senior Jayden Townsend pitched two innings striking out two.

On Tuesday the 14th, Portland hosted the Orioles of Charlotte and picked up two league wins.

In game one, Portland won 16-0 getting 11 hits in the 2 1/2 inning win.  Junior Autumn Reffitt had three hits with two doubles and four RBIs.  L. Thelen (double) and sophomore Claire Lyon each had two hits.  Spitzley got the win in the circle striking out four.

Portland won game two 24-4.  Spitzley, L. Thelen and Reffitt each had three hits.  Junior Bailee Fish, Townsend, and Lyon (triple) each had two hits. Townsend got the win on the mound striking out nine.

On Friday the 17th, Portland hosted Okemos as they celebrated their two graduating seniors, Townsend and Malia Thelen.  Townsend played four years of varsity softball at Portland and will be playing at Alma College next year.  M. Thelen was in her first year on the Portland varsity team and will be playing basketball at Lawrence Tech next year.

Despite two weather delays, Portland won game one 2-0.  Six Raiders had one hit in the game including Spitzley (triple), Townsend (double), L. Thelen, Lyon, junior Anastasia Seidelman, and sophomore Veda Smith.  Spitzley got the win in the circle striking out three.

Game two was ended after just a few innings when thunder was heard in the area.  Portland was leading 2-1 at the time.  Before the game was stopped, Lyon and sophomore Rylee Miller (double) each had a hit for Portland.  Townsend was in the circle for Portland.  Since it was a non-league match-up, the remainder of game two will likely not be made up.

The Raiders are now 18-6 on the season.  Next week they are scheduled to travel to Lansing Sexton on Tuesday, host Pewamo Westphalia on Wednesday, and will host the 19th Annual Suzanne J. Buche Cancer Awareness Tournament on Saturday starting at 10:00 AM.

The Buche tournament will include several raffles and 50/50 drawings with all proceeds benefiting the American Cancer Society.
