Portland St. Patrick Girls Softball opens season with two wins over Vestaburg


Portland St. Patrick girls softball started the season off today with two solid wins at home versus Vestaburg.


In game 1, the Shamrocks won in 5 innings 11-0. Natalee Teachworth got the win on the mound pitching through the first 3 innings with 1 strikeout. Freshman Mattie Honsowitz pitched the last two innings and had 2 strikeouts.


Offensively Emma Honsowitz was 3 for 3 with a double, triple and 2 RBIs, 8th Grader Gracelyn Rockey in her first Varsity game, was 2 for 3 with 2 Homeruns and 4 RBIs after her first two at bats. Tori Sandborn was 2 for 2 with 1 RBI, and Addie Scheurer was 2 for 3 with 2 RBIs.


In game 2, the Shamrocks won in 6 innings 13-3. Tori Sandborn got the win on the mound pitching through the first 4 innings with 2 strikeouts. Mattie Honsowitz pitched the last two innings and had 3 strikeouts.


Offensively Natalee Teachworth was 4 for 4 with 4 RBIs, Rylee Scheurer was 3 for 3 with 4 Runs, Tori Sandborn was 2 for 2 with 1 RBI and 3 Runs, Mattie Honsowitz was 2 for 3 with a double, Addison Scheurer was 2 for 4 with 2 RBIs and Gracely Rockey had 2 RBIs.


The girls played solid all around tonight and it felt great to finally get two games in to start the season. It was exciting to see the girls play well together and pick each other up. It was an all around great team effort and we are excited to see what the year brings.


Next week, we have a doubleheader vs Webberville, home on Monday at 4PM and then on the road to P-W to start league play..
