Portland Wrestling Season off to a Strong Start

On Wednesday the Boys Raider Wrestling Team traveled to Lansing Catholic for a CAAC White League matchup. The Raiders won handedly 78-5 recording 13 pins or forfeits. The Raiders then took on Haslett in their CAAC crossover dual, recording a perfect 84-0 score. This is the first time this score has been recorded by a Raider Wrestling Team in over 10 years!

Saturday, both the Varsity Girls and Varsity Boys competed. The Girls traveled to Howell for an individual tournament where they won 50% of their matches and came away with 8th place out of 32 teams. As a team only in their 2nd season, this is outstanding!

The boy's varsity team hosted 5 other teams in their dual tournament, where teams battled each other to establish the highest team score they can. The Raiders had an impressive showing winning 4 of their 5 duals. Beating Corunna by 58-15, Gladstone 58-12, Coldwater 74-5 and Leslie 43-27. Portland tried to revenge their 2023 loss at team states against Algonac, but came up short in a back-and-forth dual 27-41.

Portland will host Olivet, DeWitt, and Mason on Wednesday at 5:30p where the Varsity Boys and Girls will have multiple dual matches. The Girls and Junior Varsity will travel to Fowlerville on Saturday for an individual tournament.

For future events, including their assembly dual, find the team on the district website, Facebook or Instagram!
