Last Friday, December 6th, the Portland High School bowling teams had their first home match of the season.
The Girls Varsity team moved to 1-0 with a 19.5 to 10.5. The girls were led by Savanah Sutton who had a high game of 146 and a two-game series of 273. Keira Moffatt was next with a 260 two game series.
The Boys Varsity team won 28-2. They were led by Eli Dakin who had a high game of 222 and a 430 two game series. The boys bowled their high game of the season in game 2 with a 978.
At the North Farmington Early Bird tournament, the girls varsity team ran into some tough competition today. They finished 15th out of 19. Karagan Calley shot the team high game with a 164.
The boys varsity team bowled well most of the day but ran out of gas the last game. They averaged 199 during baker games and had some excitement for the first team game with Alec McGinnis had the front 7 strikes. The boys finished in 4th place out of 32 teams and they all feel like we left pins out there.
Alec McGinnis finished in 5th place for Boys Individuals.
At the Bay City Baker dozen tournament, the girls struggled all day and lost all 13 of their matchups finishing last for the day.
The Varsity Boys team battled all day and qualified 4th out of 19 to move on to Matchplay. Unfortunately they lost in the first round. Overall is a was a great weekend for growth for both programs.
On Monday, December 9th, Portland had a home match against Eaton Rapids.
The girls team bounced back from a rough weekend to win 26-4. Charlie Miller shot the high game and series of scores of 143 and 150 for a 293 series. Highlight of the day was the first baker game when the girls bowled their highest game of the season with a 180.
The boys won 17-13. They were led by Eli Dakin who bowled a 222 and a 394 series. Ian Hassett and Tanner Brownell made their varsity debuts. Ian bowled games of 142 and 175 while Tanner chipped in with a 156.
On Tuesday, December 19th, the Portland girls won a very close match today against Lansing Catholic 21-9. Both teams bowled well in a hard-fought match. Once again, the girls shined in the Baker games with scores of 141 and 151 to close out the win. Abby Kreiner was the star of the day on the girls side with a 162 game and 275 series.
The boys won 28-2 and were led by Dre Cross with a 362 two-game series.
