Shamrock baseball starts season with 4-0 record

The St. Patrick School varsity baseball team was able to get four games in already with the challenging Michigan weather this Spring.  The Shamrocks picked up wins in each of those four games before they take a short respite for Spring Break.

 

March 26th vs. Ionia

 

Game 1 – St. Patrick 8, Ionia 2

 

St. Patrick Varsity Shamrocks built their lead a few runs at a time in an 8-2 victory over Ionia on Wednesday, March 26th.

 

St. Patrick Varsity Shamrocks got on the board in the bottom of the first inning after Ionia committed an error, and Tyler Thelen singled to the left side of the infield, each scoring one run.

 

A single by Charlie Thelen extended the St. Patrick Varsity Shamrocks lead to 3-0 in the bottom of the second inning.

 

St. Patrick Varsity Shamrocks added to their early lead in the bottom of the third inning after Ionia committed an error, and TJ Chamberlain tripled down the right field line, each scoring one run.

 

Brady Leonard earned the win for St. Patrick Varsity Shamrocks. The starter allowed four hits and two runs (one earned) over three innings, striking out six and walking none. Jerryd Scheurer pitched four innings in relief for St. Patrick Varsity Shamrocks. The righty gave up zero hits and zero runs while, striking out seven and walking one. Piercefield took the loss for Ionia. The starter went one inning, surrendering two runs (zero earned) on two hits, striking out two and walking none.

 

St. Patrick Varsity Shamrocks piled up nine hits in the game. Logan Howe drove the middle of the lineup, leading St. Patrick Varsity Shamrocks with two runs batted in. The cleanup hitter went 1-for-4 on the day. Leonard, Simon White, and Thelen each collected two hits for St. Patrick Varsity Shamrocks. Leonard stole two bases.

 

Piercefield , Palmer, Ferguson, and Roundtree each collected one hit for Ionia. Piercefield  and Palmer were tough to handle back-to-back in the lineup, as each drove in one run for Ionia. Ionia turned one double play in the game.

Game 2 – St. Patrick 6, Ionia 0

 

St. Patrick Varsity Shamrocks were triumphant over Ionia 5-0 in the second game of the day.

 

St. Patrick Varsity Shamrocks got on the board in the first inning after Logan Howe grounded out, scoring one run.

 

Brayden Simon earned the win for St. Patrick Varsity Shamrocks. The hurler allowed zero hits and zero runs over four innings, striking out six and walking none. Hodges took the loss for Ionia. The starting pitcher went two-thirds of an inning, surrendering one run on zero hits, striking out none and walking three. Charlie Thelen collected the save.

 

Brady Leonard, Jerryd Scheurer, Howe, and Thelen each collected one hit for St. Patrick Varsity Shamrocks. Scheurer and Howe each drove in two runs for St. Patrick Varsity Shamrocks. St. Patrick Varsity Shamrocks didn't commit a single error in the field. Thelen had the most chances in the field with seven.

April 3rd vs. Fulton

 

Game 1 – St. Patrick 10, Fulton 0

 

St. Patrick Varsity Shamrocks opened the scoring in the bottom of the first thanks to two errors. St. Patrick Varsity Shamrocks first got on the board when an error scored one run.

 

St. Patrick Varsity Shamrocks added to their early lead in the bottom of the second inning when Charlie Thelen doubled, scoring two runs, a dropped third strike scored one run, and one run scored on another play.

 

Brady Leonard earned the win for St. Patrick Varsity Shamrocks. The hurler surrendered three hits and zero runs over five innings, striking out six and walking five. Billings took the loss for Fulton. The starter went one and two-thirds innings, surrendering six runs (two earned) on two hits, striking out three and walking three.

 

Leonard, Simon White, Thelen, Tyler Thelen, Ben White, and Isaiah Rockey each collected one hit for St. Patrick Varsity Shamrocks. Thelen led St. Patrick Varsity Shamrocks with three runs batted in. The catcher went 1-for-3 on the day. Leonard led St. Patrick Varsity Shamrocks with three walks. Overall, the team had a strong eye at the plate, amassing seven walks for the game. Leonard stole two bases. St. Patrick Varsity Shamrocks ran wild on the base paths, collecting five stolen bases for the game. St. Patrick Varsity Shamrocks turned one double play in the game. St. Patrick Varsity Shamrocks were sure-handed in the field and didn't commit a single error. Thelen had the most chances in the field with seven.

 

Sattler, Akin, and Littwiller each collected one hit for Fulton.

Game 2 – St. Patrick 1, Fulton 0

 

Brayden Simon was dominant on the hill, as the hurler rang up 10 strikeouts in St. Patrick Varsity Shamrocks's 1-0 victory over Fulton on Thursday at TBD. Simon gave up one hit and zero runs over five innings while walking one.

 

St. Patrick Varsity Shamrocks didn't take the lead until later in the game. The game was tied at zero in the bottom of the sixth when Simon hit a sacrifice fly, scoring one run.

 

Jerryd Scheurer earned the win for St. Patrick Varsity Shamrocks. The hurler gave up one hit and zero runs over two innings, striking out none and walking none. Stattler took the loss for Fulton. The pitcher went six innings, surrendering one run on six hits, striking out four and walking one.

 

Scheurer set the tone at the top of the lineup, leading St. Patrick Varsity Shamrocks with two hits in three at bats. Simon led the team with one run batted in. St. Patrick Varsity Shamrocks turned one double play in the game.

 

Duflo and Akin were a force together in the lineup, as they each collected one hit for Fulton while hitting back-to-back. Fulton turned one double play in the game. Fulton were sure-handed in the field and didn't commit a single error. Akin had the most chances in the field with nine.
