Shamrock boys over power Morrice and Potterville




On Monday, February 5th, the Shamrocks from Portland St. Patrick travelled to Morrice for a boys basketball game with the Orioles. The Shamrocks were just too strong, defeating Morrice 47-33.


In the first quarter, the Shamrocks hammered the Orioles, scoring 17 and defensively smothering them allowing 2 points. St. Patrick was led by Charlie Thelen who had 9 points.


The second quarter saw Morrice wake up, with the Orioles winning the quarter 10-5. This left the Shamrocks winning 22-12 at halftime. Lucas Simon and Brayden Simon both scored for St. Patrick.


The third quarter saw the Shamrocks take care of business, winning the quarter 16-11 and taking a 38-23 lead into the final quarter. St. Patrick was led by Brayden Simon who had 8 points.


The final quarter saw the Shamrocks hold on for the win, with the Orioles outscoring them in the final quarter 10-9. Jerryd Scheurer led the Shamrocks with 7 points.


Offensively, St. Patrick was led by Brayden Simon with 16 points, Jerryd Scheurer had 14 points 8 assists and 4 steals, Charlie Thelen had 13 points. Devin Cook led the the team in rebounds with 6.


The Shamrocks hosted Potterville on Tuesday, February 6 and came out with another win, beating the Vikings 50-43. 


The Shamrocks came out flat and were held to only one point in the first quarter, with Potterville scoring 8, making the score 8-1 after one quarter. 


In the second quarter, St. Patrick fired up, scoring 15 points and holding Potterville to another 8. This left the score 16-16 at halftime. The Shamrocks were led by Jerryd Scheurer who had 8 points, and Brayden Simon who had 6 points. 


After the break, the Shamrock defense came to play, holding Potterville to 5 points and outscoring them with 12. This left the Shamrocks winning 28-21 after three quarters of play. 


In the final quarter, there was some excitement, with the Shamrocks and Vikings going back and forth, both teams putting up 22 points. The Shamrocks got the job done at the free throw line, making 12 out of 18 from the charity stripe. Brayden Simon led St. Patrick with 10 points, and Jerryd Scheurer wasn't too far behind with 9 points. 


Offensive leaders were Brayden Simon with an 18 point 10 rebound double double. Jerryd Scheurer had 17 points and 4 assists. Charlie Thelen and Devin Cook both added 8 rebounds a piece. The Shamrocks (7-10) will head to Perry on Thursday for a big matchup against the 10-6 Ramblers.
