Shamrock Football tops Vestaburg


The Portland St. Patrick Shamrocks travelled north to Vestaburg for a homecoming showdown with the Wolverines. The Shamrocks went to work, handling every facet of the game and winning 44-0.


In the first quarter, Quarterback Brady Leonard led the Shamrocks on two drives, capping them off with rushing touchdowns of 4 and 15 yards. Brayden Simon punched in both two point conversions to make the score 16-0 after one quarter of play.

More dominance in the second quarter, as the defense continued to stifle the Wolverines, and the Shamrocks continued to move the ball at will. Tyler Groothuis caught a 20 yard touchdown pass from Brady Leonard, and Brady Leonard busted lose and galloped for a 49 yard touchdown. Tyler Groothuis kicked the extra points, leaving the score 30-0 at halftime.


The Shamrocks put the game away in the third and fourth quarter, with a pair of Riley Mosser catches for 13 and 7 yards, followed by two Tyler Groothuis kicks. This left the game 44-0.


The offensive leaders for the Shamrocks were Brady Leonard who went 4 for 5 for 79 yards and 3 touchdowns and rushed 9 times for 102 yards and 3 touchdowns. Brayden Simon carried the ball 8 times for 79 yards and had one catch for 39 yards.


Defensively, Riley Mosser was a wrecking ball, tallying 13 tackles and 4 tackles for loss (TFL). Augustus Teachworth and Aiden Mosser also had 9 tackles. Every Shamrock had a tackle in a solid team defensive effort.


The Shamrocks host Fulton on Saturday, October 7th at 7 pm. for Homecoming.
