Shamrock men drop season opener
The Portland St. Patrick's boys basketball opened their season on Monday, November 27th against Webberville. The young Shamrocks came to play, but came up just a bit short, losing 58-51.
In the first quarter, St. Patrick jumped out to a lead, led by Brayden Simon who had 6 points, leading 9-7 after one quarter.
The second quarter saw more offense from both teams, with the Webberville Spartans outscoring the Shamrocks 14-10, and taking a 21-19 lead into the half. The Shamrocks were paced by Jerryd Scheurer who had 5 points.
After the half, Webberville continued to play just a little better and outscored the Shamrocks 19-15, and led the game 40-34. The Shamrock scoring was balanced, with Landon Simpson putting in 5 points, Brayden Simon putting in 4 points, and Brady Leonard, Jerryd Scheurer and Charlie Thelen all chipping in 2 points.
In the final quarter, the Shamrocks continued to battle, but still came up short, losing the quarter 18-17. Brayden Simon dominated the quarter, scoring 11 points.
Leading scorers for the Shamrocks were Brayden Simon who had 24 points, Jerryd Scheurer who had 11 points, and Landon Simpson who had 7 points.
The Shamrocks host CHAP, on Friday, December 1st at Portland Middle School. JV starts at 6:00 pm.
