Shamrock softball goes 1-1 at Lake Leelanau Tournament
The Portland St. Patrick’s Varsity softball and baseball teams traveled to Lake Leelanau this weekend for the Kris Popp Memorial Strike Out for Cancer Tournament.
On Saturday the softball team had the first game versus Hale where the Shamrocks were able to win 20-2 to advance to the championship game. Tori Sandborn pitched the complete game improving her record to 5-0. She recorded 9 strikeouts and only had 2 walks in the game. Overall the Shamrocks had only one error in the game.
The Shamrocks as a team recorded 18 hits for the game. Rylee Scheurer was 4-for-4 with 5 RBIs and a double, Tori Sandborn was 3-for-4, Natalee Teachworth was 3-for-3 with a double and an RBI, Mattie Honsowitz was 2-for-3 with 3 RBIs and Hannah Weller was 2-2 with 2 RBIs.
In the championship game, the Shamrocks took on a tough Lake Leelanau St. Mary’s team, unfortunately for the Shamrocks they came up short to lose 4-2 in 6 innings. The team had 10 hits total in the game and they were led by Rylee Scheurer and Mattie Honsowitz, who each went 2-for-3.
Mattie Honsowitz started the game pitching through the first 3 innings and took the loss for the game. Natalee Teachworth finished the final 3 innings of the game. They each recorded 2 strikeouts.
We always enjoy this tournament as we grow together as a team and have fun with team bonding and family time. Friday night festivities started with the annual baseball versus softball minute to win-it tournament and once again the softball team took home the trophy!
