Shamrock softball splits with Bath

St. Patrick Varsity Team hosted Bath for a league matchup duel last Thursday. The Shamrocks split with the Bees and played two very solid games against a very scrappy Bath team.

Game 1: 4-2

The Shamrocks took a one run lead in the first inning and tacked on another run in the 4th, 5th and 6th inning. The Bees scored late in the 6th and 7th inning. The Shamrocks played rock solid defense and Tori Sandborn pitched a fabulous game and added 4 strikeouts to the team defense. At the plate Rylee Scheurer went 2/3 with one run, Gracelyn Rockey went 2/3 with one run and an RBI. Addie Scheurer went 1/2 with a run and an RBI. Tori Sandborn and Megan Myers also added an RBI.

Game 2: 7-11

The second game jumped to a tied game in the 1st inning and then the Shamrocks scored again in the 3rd inning. Each team added a run in the fourth and the Bees took the lead in the 6th inning. The Shamrocks came within striking distance in the 7th inning but could score the runners in position. Again, Tori Sandborn commanded from the mound and added five strikeouts. At the plate Hannah Weller went 2/3 with an RBI. Addie Scheurer went 3/5. Rylee Scheurer went 2/4 with 2 runs. Megan Myers went 2/4 and an RBI. Laynie Meredith had two runs and added a double, with an RBI and Gracelyn Rockey and Lily Sandborn both added an RBI.

Coaching Staff Comments:

We couldn’t be more proud of the way the team played today. Tori was absolutely outstanding and commanded 9 strikeouts for the team as well mixed pitches in sequences that kept Bath with indirect hits throughout the night. Defensively the team communicated well, made the plays we’ve been committed to and shut down many Bath attempts. Offensively, we continue to grow and thrive. The girls fed off of each other this evening and were able to position our team in scoring position almost every inning. This was a great test of our skill sets as Bath is currently competing at the top of our league. Winning game one, and having the lead in game two until the 6th inning was exactly where we envision our team moving forward. The Shamrocks travel to Potterville next Thursday.
